What CPA stereotype do you embody?
I love numbers and am logical and introverted.

What CPA stereotype do you defy?
I enjoy being funnier than people expect, and I have a lot of hobbies that may not be CPA stereotypical: running, strength training, attending comic cons, collecting basketball, baseball or football cards and memorabilia or building Lego sets.

Why did you choose to become a CPA?
My dad was a VP of Finance for a company and loved that job. He was great at it. We are wired similarly. He did not have his CPA license and was eventually transitioned to a different role and replaced by a CPA. The value of a CPA license to open doors and provide job security were apparent to me at a young age.

What's Your CPA "superpower"?
Being able to use Microsoft Excel with video game like skill or pivot between details and the strategic big picture with regards to anything impacting our company are my CPA "superpower."

What's something that you've done that has nothing to do with accounting but you're really proud of?
Being married for over 18 years and a father of 4 kids (3 daughters and 1 son) ranging from 14 years old down to 2 are what I am most proud of and grateful for in life. On a personal note, I am proud that I set my personal record half marathon time while in my 40s.

What advice would you give to your younger self before taking the CPA exam?
I liked how I passed the exam: all 4 parts before kids and increased career responsibilities and as soon as possible after meeting all eligibility requirements. Exam material and study habits were also fresher.

Finish this sentence: "You know you're a CPA when ..."
You enjoy using spreadsheets outside of work or stories just feel incomplete without numbers.
